Following on from the success of last weeks amazing Communicators gig, we are staging another great line up of bands this weekend at Canning Town.
We open Friday evening from 4pm with our fabulous ‘Upcyclers’ displaying and selling their beautiful products, our exhibition ‘Uplifting Choices’ showcasing the very best of upcycling and sustainable design, wonderful food stalls, the fab Dorset Cider House crew offering incredible British Ale and Cider, and not forgetting out headliner ‘The Kings of the City’ and support acts from 7.30pm. Check out their music now on SoundCloud.
It will be free to enter the site before 7pm with a request you pay a nominal fee of £2 after this time to support our project. OAPs and children under 12 will be free at all times.
There will be more live music on Saturday evening also with gates opening at 1pm that day.
FORGET THE OLYMPICS… the real event in Newham this summer is Industri[us]
Industri[us] is a great example how people + hard work x enormous spirit and determination = amazing energy and change
With the help of our many, many wonderful supporters we are delighted to report that from July 20th we will be fully operational and looking amazing!
WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT
The brown site we were awarded in the Meanwhile London competition has been completely transformed. Approaching Industri[us] from Canning Town Station or indeed from the Emirates Air Line Cable Car (just around the corner) you will be met with two beautifully landscaped open squares and the smell of delicious street food, courtesy of traders at Urban Feasts.
You can then marvel at the artistic talents of Rosetta Arts’ community art wall and the ROBOTS >>>> Canning Town Giant. You will be drawn to the beacon that is our Make/Shift Market and indulge in a little retail therapy, amazed at the alchemy some folks have to be able to make discarded material look so good. And all before you take the Ping Pong Challenge at our custom built pavilion.
There is something for everyone this summer at Industri[us]. Come and join in!
“Will temporary uses transform how we approach regeneration and development? Hear about how Meanwhile/Temporary uses for major sites in London’s Royal Docks are set to kick-start a better, sustainable, regeneration process.”
Kat Davis will be speaking at Ecobuild on Wednesday 21st March alongside other winners of last year’s Meanwhile London competition.
Industri[us] is a new initiative created with community members, designers and inventors in Newham and wider afield.
We have collected intelligent and like-minded groups and individuals to build a creative business hub where people can learn how to make and do, turning ‘waste’ material into valuable products for sale.
In early 2011, Industri[us] was a winning entry in the Meanwhile London competition run by Property Week in partnership with the Mayors of London and Newham.
